Hope. St. Joseph had no clue what God had in store for him. A betrothed wife pregnant by someone other than him. An angel telling him tall tales. And the Son of God promised to be born. And yet he had hope. Joseph had trust and faith in the promises of God. And in silent acceptance, he became the foster father of Jesus! What can you do with hope?

"Be not afraid." Those are the words Jesus spoke most often. "Be not afraid." And then we look at the readings leading up to Christ the King and are amazed when they sound just like the 10:00 news! But Jesus tells us, "Be not afraid." Salvation is coming, and we are called to play a part in its coming until it finally does. So, "be not afraid!"
