"Todos, Todos, Todos," says Pope Francis. The Holy Father has reminded us from the start of his pontificate that the gospel message was intended for "everyone, everyone, everyone," Just look at Jesus, who spoke to a Cannonite (a no-no then) woman in public (also a no-no back then)! So who are you not spreading the Good News with today?

Homily from Assumption 2023

Why do we have holy days, these days that fall between Sundays when the church says we MUST got to church? They are established because they're keys to our faith, foundations on which we profess our beliefs. But what sets this holy day of obligation apart from others, especially the Ascension of Jesus? It's because of Mary's "Yes" that we celebrate her on the Solemnity of the Assumption. Because Mary said to the angel, "Let it be done to me according to your word," God honored her with sparing her a mortal death and instead brought her directly into the heavenly kingdom. The question for us on this holy day is this: can we be worthy of such a reward? It all starts with saying "Yes" to God!

In the First Reading this weekend, God asks the King of Israel a simple question: What is it you truly want? As king, he could have asked for anything, but instead he asks for the humblest of gifts: understanding! Take a look at your life (and maybe your pocketbook). What is it you really want?
And thanks to Msgr. Jim Miller for presiding this weekend in Fr. John's absence!

More than Just a Relish Tray
Monday Jul 03, 2023
Monday Jul 03, 2023
When guests come over, usually our reaction is to offer a meat and cheese tray, maybe a vegetable platter, some fruit, and/or a drink or two. We provide some nourishment! That's all well and good, but there's more to being hospitable than dolling out some food and beverage. Hospitality is making room for others in our hearts, just ask Christ has made room for us in the City of God. In our self-centered culture, it's often hard to open space for others in our lives, and we're definitely not encouraged to do it. But the Gospel call us - ALL of us - to make some room!
